Hey beauties! Lately I’ve been obsessed with using less heat and more moisture in my hair. Deep conditioners and hair masque are my go-to for moisture, but I decided to do some research to figure out what exactly is the major difference between the two??
The main factor that they have in common is that they both bring EXTRA moisture to your hair. When you are on your healthy hair journey the key component to stronger, healthier and shiny hair is moisture! There are different ways that you can keep your hair healthy and moisturized and using deep conditioners and masque is a great way to start! If you consistently use these products properly, you will see a major difference in your hair.
When using any products, reading the directions are extremely important. You should know when to use it, how often and why you are using that product. I feel so much more confident in my hair routine now that I know the basics!
Here is what I learned...
We all know the basics when it comes to washing your hair - shampoo and then condition. Shampoo is typically used to clean your hair and can also strip your hair of it’s natural oils which is why you follow up with conditioner to add moisture back into your hair. A deep conditioner can be used in place of a regular conditioner in order to intensely moisturize. Deep conditioners can be used regularly 1-2 times a week to improve the condition of your hair. Deep conditioners also provide more slip which can help the detangling process so much easier! What makes deep conditioners so convenient is that you can use them for a short period of time and they are still very effective! My favorite deep conditioner at the moment is Aussie 3 Minute Miracle Moist Deep Conditioning Treatment. It smells amazing and it works fast! I like to use this product on my natural hair and wigs as well.
A hair masque is a great addition to your healthy hair moisture routine, it can also provide other benefits depending on what masque you purchase. Unlike a deep conditioner, a masque is applied before shampoo and conditioner. You can also apply it to wet or dry hair and keep it in overnight. With a deep conditioner the longest you should leave it on is for 30 minutes at most. I would personally use a masque once or twice a month. A masque should be used whenever you feel like your hair needs extra TLC. Think of a hair masque as an occasional booster for your hair. We all know when our hair is lacking and needs a little something extra and finding a specific masque for your hair concern will really transform your hair! I am currently using the Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter Deep Treatment Masque and my jar is almost completely gone! I love that you can add extra virgin olive oil to the masque. In order to get the best luxury masque experience I put the masque on wet hair under a shower cap and sit under the dryer for 30 minutes.
Both types of products are amazing for your hair and either or both is great for promoting healthy hair growth. It’s all about paying attention to what your hair needs and using the right products to fulfill those needs.
