If you know me, you know that I'm always wearing some extensions in my head. Brazilian Curly, Straight, Wavy... I'm a virgin hair fanatic! The only thing about that is my natural hair is always braided up and doesn't get seen as much.
I work at a makeup counter and my coworker came in to work with her natural hair and a beat face and she looked amazing! Her natural curl pattern was extremely curly and she had a short curly afro. She really inspired me to throw my wig off, unbraid my hair and channel my inner Pam Grier.
While at the counter we continued our conversation and she told me she didn't want people to think she was crazy because she always comes in with a different hairstyle. I just laughed because I am the exact same way, but I usually just wear my U-Part wigs in different hairstyles and that's really it. I never just walked into work with a natural fro... I guess you could say that I'm so used to wearing weaves that wearing what actually grows out of my roots can be different for me...
I am proud to be an African American woman...we are so beautiful. From our curly textured hair, to the melanin in our skin to the curves on our shapely figures...we should embrace it. God created us the way we are for a reason.
I just decided to do this post and photo shoot in order for me to really embrace who I am. I did it so I can feel free and beautiful with the way I am. I'm not going to just drop my wigs off in the garbage and be natural every day, but I will definitely be wearing my natural hair a lot more now.
I encourage you ladies to do the same!
